"My oil paintings and ceramic sculptures are connected to ecological, psychological and social topics. I merge abstraction with classical subjects and painting genres, such as landscape, still-life or portrait, and transfer them into the realms of sculpture and installation. Hereby surreal worlds and hybrid objects arise that become reflections of our time. My work is process-based and open-ended, whereby painting is always the starting point. By combining the familiar with the unfamiliar, the viewer’s visual memory is linked to own fields of association, which open up a direct space for emotional experience."

Veronika Hilger (born 1981, Prien am Chiemsee) lives and works in Munich. She studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich in the class of Axel Kasseböhmer and as a master student of Jean-Marc Bustamente. In 2014, she was awarded the diploma prize of the Erwin and Gisela von Steiner Stiftung and, in 2020, the work stipend of the Kunstfond Foundation. Institutional exhibitions include Kunstverein Recklinghausen (Rare Earths, 2016), Kunstpavillon Munich (breeding shapes, 2020) and, currently, at the Lothar Fischer Museum in Neumarkt i.d. OPf. Furthermore, her works have been shown in various national and international exhibitions, such as in New York (In Between, 2024), Paris (Confab Window, 2023) and Tartu, Estonia (Three of a Kind, 2022). Veronika Hilger’s works are held in numerous public and private collections, including the Bundeskunstsammlung, Kunsthalle Bielefeld, Städtische Galerie im Lenbachhaus, as well as the Jupiter Artland Foundation in Edinburgh, Scotland.
