Nominee Photography
At the centre of Manuela Braunmüller's photographic work is the relationship between humans and animals; whereby she questions the ethical and economic structures that dictate the worth of the individual.
She develops her photographic world based on the exact observation of our relationships to animals in the everyday and research rooted in scientific archives. This knowledge she elaborates on with film, sound and poetry, thereby showing animals respect that goes beyond their mere use and recognises their actual lives.
Manuela Braunmüller, born 1993, is a visual artist and photographer, who lives and works in Munich. She studied photography at the University in Munich and at the Ostkreuzschule for Photography in Berlin in Ute Mahler and Ingo Taubhorn's masterclass. In 2020, she received a stipend by the Deichtorhallen in Hamburg and is since a member in the European photography platform FUTURES. Since 2025, she is studying at the Academy of Fine Arts Munich in Professor Gerry Bibby's sculpture class, so as to integrate her photographic practice more intensely into an installation context. Her work has been shown in numerous solo and group shows, in the communal gallery Wilmersdorf in Berlin, the Academy gallery in Munich and different international festivals like the Noorderlicht photofestival in the Netherlands and the Yeast Festival in Italy, amongst others.
